A successful IT project begins with a detailed analysis of business requirements. A business analyst plays a crucial role in this process by working with business and technology stakeholders to identify needs for business change and implementation of technologies to support business goals and objectives.
This Certificate in Business Analysis program will prepare you to actively support the delivery of successful IT projects. You will learn how to clearly identify business needs and project requirements and how to work collaboratively with business and IT stakeholders.
The program includes courses that leverage the concepts of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA™) Business Analysis Body of Knowledge and include some key topics such as collaboration, testing and quality assurance, and requirements analysis and design. Upon successful completion of the certificate, you will have a toolkit of practices and knowledge that will support you in your day to day work.
NOTE: The IIBA recognizes writing as a skill necessary for Business Analysts. Students are therefore expected to have university-level English writing skills including grammar, vocabulary, and basic writing experience. If you need to brush up on these skills, it is strongly recommend WRI 150 Writing in the Workplace be taken at the beginning of the program.

Online and In Class
Courses in this program are delivered online and in class. Courses are scheduled at convenient times, allowing you to complete the program at a pace that fits your life.
You should plan on studying and working approximately 6 hours per week per course.
Online learning fits into busy schedules by taking the learning experience out of the traditional classroom. Students have online access to instructors, fellow learners, and learning materials.

240 Hours
All Continuing Education programs are developed with part-time learners in mind. The Certificate in Business Analysis is a 240-hour program.
The length of time it takes to complete this program varies by student. If you take one course per term (four courses a year), you will likely complete the program in two years. You will complete the program faster if you take multiple courses per term.
$6,982 to $7,232
The approximate cost to complete the Certificate in Business Analysis is $6,982 to $7,232.
This includes the $105 admission fee.
Prior learning from other post-secondary institutions
Advanced standing may be granted for equivalent, graded courses completed at other post-secondary institutions. Credit may be granted up to a maximum of 60 hours towards this program.

If you have completed requirements for another University of Calgary Continuing Education program, you may be able to transfer some credits to this program. Maximum advanced standing and transferred credit
The combined total of advanced standing and transferred credits cannot exceed 120 hours for this program.
On completion of this program, you may wish to pursue studies in another.
Upon completing the Certificate in Business Analysis, up to 90 hours of equivalent courses may be transferred towards the certificate in Business Intelligence and Analytics, or up to 30 hours to certificates in IT Fundamentals and .NET Application Development.
Up to 40 hours may be transferred to the Professional Writing Certificates specializing in Business and Technical Writing and Marketing and Public Relations.
Up to 30 hours may be transferred to the Professional Management Certificate: General, Specializing in Construction Management, Specializing in Risk Management, Specializing in Strategic Management, and Professional Engineer and Geoscientists (PEG).
