Learning Technology at Continuing Education
Desire2Learn (D2L) is the learning management system used in all of our classroom and online courses. It is web-based, and provides access to course content, supplemental materials, and discussions. Anywhere you have a reliable Internet connection, you can access your course from any device at any time.
Every course has a space in D2L.
Course information is organized into modules and submodules.
Your course access is password-protected and private.

Digital Skills for Learning Online
This free course will prepare you for online learning with UCalgary Continuing Education. It will help you develop the skills you need to become a successful online learner.
Online Course Formats
Online Synchronous
Instructor-led, live videoconferencing
Your course will be delivered using Desire2Learn (D2L), the University of Calgary learning management system, and hosted using Zoom or Microsoft Teams video conferencing software. All classes are held online in real-time, at specified times and dates in Mountain Time (MT) with additional materials on D2L.
Note to Students: Classes may be recorded and only used for the purpose of reviewing the content in this online course. It is your responsibility to inform the instructor prior to a Zoom session if you do not want your voice or image to be recorded.
Online Asynchronous
Instructor-led, with no scheduled live videoconferencing
Your course will be delivered using Desire2Learn (D2L), the University of Calgary learning management system. Unlike correspondence or self-paced courses, asynchronous courses are instructor-led and require regular student participation throughout. There are learning activities and assignments included in each D2L course that would fall under instruction.

Online Hybrid
Instructor-led, with one or more live videoconferencing sessions
Your course will be delivered using Desire2Learn (D2L), the University of Calgary learning management system, and hosted using Zoom or Microsoft Teams video conferencing software. One or more online live sessions are held online in real-time, at specified times and dates in Mountain Time (MT). There are learning activities and assignments included in each D2L course that would fall under instruction.
