Online Course Formats

Online Synchronous

Online Synchronous (live videoconferencing)

Online Synchronous courses are hosted using Zoom video conferencing software. Classes are held online in real time, at specified times and dates. Please note that times are provided in Mountain Time (MT).

While participating in a Zoom class, students can interact directly with their instructor and classmates through live conversation, text chat, and screen sharing.

Online Asynchronous

Online Asynchronous

There are two types of asynchronous courses:

  1. Instructor-led, with some live conferencing sessions

The instruction occurs through modules with course content to follow. All assignments have deadlines, but students can choose when to participate in discussions and work on assignments. There are a few pre-scheduled live Zoom online lessons. You will see these dates in the course section notes at the time of registration.

There is live interaction with the instructor and other students.

  2. Instructor-led, with no live conferencing

These courses are less time-dependant. The instruction occurs through discussion boards, and modules with course content to follow. All assignments have deadlines, but students have time flexibility to participate in discussions and work on assignments. You will not see pre-scheduled live online lessons in the course section notes at the time of registration.

There is no live interaction with the instructor and other students.
