IND 300 - Inclusive Work Environments Based on Truth and Reconciliation
Course Description
Explore the critical role of Indigenous people within the workplace and learn how to formulate strategic goals that create a respectful and inclusive environment for Indigenous employees. Learn about cultural safety frameworks that increase awareness, understanding, respectfulness, and cultural capacity in your workplace. Explore ways to respect and protect knowledge and reciprocal relationship-building to walk parallel pathways. Gain an understanding of how tokenism and pan-indigeneity affect Indigenous people within the workplace and learn how to provide support in these situations.
You will use an Indigenous perspective to understand how Indigenous inclusion is distinct from Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) while also being connected. Use this knowledge to better advocate for the rights of Indigenous people and understand the responsibilities of having Indigenous best practices that support EDI. Understand how equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous inclusion can be interwoven within recruitment and retention strategies to uphold Indigenous rights within the workplace.

Learning Outcomes
By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:
- Use resources based on Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing, and connecting to identify barriers for Indigenous people in the workplace
- Engage in supporting Indigenous people in the workplace through recruitment and retention strategies
- Consider how being a good relative can be built through concepts of relationships, allyship, safe spaces, cultural humility, and cultural safety
- Compare and contrast recruitment and retention strategies to formulate recommendations that include Indigenous perspectives in the workplace
