TSL 109 - Teaching Practicum (20 hours) - ESL
Course Description
The practicum course provides you with an opportunity to observe an experienced ESL teacher in a classroom setting and complete paper-based recordings of ten hours of observations. In addition, you will apply the knowledge and skills learned during the program in a supervised practice setting. You will teach ten hours of lessons that you have planned. You will receive feedback in the form of recommendations from your supervising teacher. Practicum observations and practice teaching locations will be determined in consultation with the practicum supervisor.
Registration must take place a minimum of two weeks prior to the start of the practicum.
Course Details
The TSL Practicum is optional; however, certification students seeking TESL Canada Professional Certificates must successfully complete the teaching practicum.
The Calgary based practicum consists of 10 hours of classroom observation followed by 10 hours of supervised classroom teaching. You must have completed all four Level 1 certificate courses before starting the practicum. The 20 hours of observation and teaching are completed during the day (Monday to Friday). You will meet with the practicum supervisor and the sponsor teacher to determine a schedule. Observing or teaching sessions are usually completed in 1-hour sessions over the duration of the 10-week course. Practicum placements are limited so please register early!

Must be registered in the TSL Level 1 Certificate, and completed all four TSL Certificate Level 1 courses
