As organizations strive to meet the changing and competitive nature of business, continuous improvement leaders are required to drive process improvement and champion cultural change.
This program is designed for individuals interested in becoming leaders of continuous process improvement work within their organization. Throughout this program, participants focus on the application of Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement concepts to reduce operational costs, improve quality and value, and save money. This Green Belt Certification program provides practical learning through a combination of in-class learning from industry leaders and guest lecturers, discussions, exercises, case studies, and project work.
Following the completion of eight in-class training days, participants will initialize and complete a project for their organization under the supervision of a Master Black Belt instructor.
The University of Calgary provides the Green Belt certification as a secondary certification provider. Participants who successfully complete the program requirements will earn certification as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
The course content for this program aligns with industry learning standards, and participants may choose to sit third-party certification exams through accrediting organizations. There is no single accreditation body for Lean Six Sigma, therefore the University of Calgary cannot endorse any particular accrediting body.
Courses in this program are taught by certified Master Black Belts. The in-class delivery of PDS 240 Lean Six Sigma for Green Belts: Foundations and PDS 241 Lean Six Sigma Green Belt: Project and Statistics provide hands-on learning and application of Lean and Six Sigma concepts and tools.
The program culminates in a final project — a practical application of learning through the completion of a real-world project, based on an issue within their organization, with the coaching and support of an instructor.
PDS 240 Lean Six Sigma for Green Belts: Foundations and PDS 241 Lean Six Sigma Green Belt: Project and Statistics are delivered in-class in an intensive format.
PDS 242 Lean Six Sigma for Green Belts: Final Project (coming Spring 2019) is delivered online to allow participants access to coaching and supervision over the first 10 weeks of their project. Participants may take up to one year to complete their project and earn their certification.
All Continuing Education certificates are developed with part-time learners in mind. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification program is an 86-hour program consisting of two intensive in-class courses and one online final project course. The total in-class time is 56 hours.
