Tap into the exceptional talents of our International Professional Program graduates
University of Calgary Continuing Education is seeking employers to hire graduates from our International Professional Programs. These students have come to Canada with previous diplomas, degrees and work experience. They will have recently completed their studies with us, and are now are looking to bring their talents to the Canadian workplace.
For work terms beginning in January 2025, we are looking to facilitate their launch into the Canadian workforce by connecting our graduates to three- to four-month Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities with Canadian employers. We see this as a win-win. Employers as are able to tap into the diverse skills and innovative perspectives our students bring. Students are able to gain invaluable Canadian work experience now that their education journey with us has provided them with employment-ready skills in several key demand areas.

When does WIL take place?
- The first WIL placements will run from January to April 2025
How long is each WIL placement?
- 10 to 13 weeks
- 30 to 40 hours a week

Frequently Asked Questions
How many hours will graduates be able to work?
We ask that graduates be employed in their positions at least 30 hours a week.
Who oversees the WIL program? Will I have someone to reach out to if I have concerns?
The Associate Director for IPP will oversee the WIL program, along with the Program Manager, IPP. Our Career Pathway Advisor will also check in with employers near the end of their WIL placements.
Are employers expected to assist graduates with their immigration processes and documentation?
No, employers are not expected to help students in this regard. Graduates are responsible for navigating themselves through the immigration system.
What are employers expected to pay?
At the very least, employers are expected to pay Alberta minimum wage. The salary should be negotiated as a short-term contract between the employer and the student.
Can employers extend the placement, if desired?
Yes, you are free to negotiate a longer placement with the student. Graduates are eligible for a post-graduate work permit (PGWP).
Can I hire more than one graduate?
Yes, you are welcome to hire as many graduates as you would like.
