What you can expect from online courses
Continuing Education's online courses are engaging and require high quality work. Online learning at Continuing Education provides the same quality learning as traditional classroom courses, and requires the same level of commitment.
Instructors
Our instructors are experts, well equipped with the knowledge and experience their course demands. Our industry-based courses are taught by people who have real-world experience. Often, they are still working in their field while they are sharing their knowledge in our courses.
Course Timing
Our online courses are designed so that you can participate at a time that works for you. You are not learning in isolation, and you are expected to take part in online discussions. Please check the course outline provided by your instructor for all course details.
Online Classrooms
The University of Calgary uses Desire2Learn (D2L) to facilitate online courses. D2L is an online learning portal where your instructor will post course outlines, assignments, resources, and grades as well as facilitate online discussions and meetings.
For online synchronous courses, your instructor will lead schedule online classes or meetings using Zoom conferencing software. Access to your classes is provided through your D2L portal.
Some technology courses use a virtual lab with VMware Horizon, a platform for virtual desktops and applications. This platform provides students with access to virtual desktops, applications, and online services through a single digital workspace.
For more details about online learning, see our online learning resources.
