Client Work Search Strategies: Employment Interviews

As career development professionals, clients look to us for guidance and sound strategies for a successful job search in an ever-changing labour market. Explore effective ways to prepare clients for job interviews, including analyzing job postings, reviewing skills and competencies, designing mock interviews, and practising job negotiations. Topic areas include building a professional network, leveraging social media, interview preparation and techniques, and negotiating job offers.

Course Details

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Describe common techniques used by employers when conducting interviews, including different types and styles of interviews 
  • Conduct an effective mock interview and mock negotiation session
  • Provide constructive feedback on client interview skills
  • Coach clients on the effective use of social media in their job search
  • Support clients in developing networking skills and a professional network
  • Create effective scripts for interview questions, negotiations and networking

This is an Online Hybrid course with Online Synchronous Sessions held online in real time (Mountain Time).  

  • Zoom web conferencing software. To fully participate in the classes, students will need: an internet connection, and a reliable headset with microphone.

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students registering on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students unfamiliar with online learning are encouraged to take our free Digital Skills for Learning Online course.

Unless otherwise stated, notice of withdrawal or transfer from a course must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the start date of the course.
