Course Description

This course examines perspectives on ideology. Students will explore the principles of liberalism and the progression from classical to modern liberalism. Students will analyze the effect of ideology on the growth of Canada and the impacts on Indigenous, Francophones and Anglophones in the post-confederation period.

Course Details

By the completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Explore the relationship between identity and ideology
  • Assess impacts of, and reactions to, principles of liberalism
  • Assess the extent to which the principles of liberalism are viable
  • Assess rights, roles and responsibilities as citizens

Notes

Formerly UPG 360 Social Studies 3. Students who have taken UPG 360 should not enrol in this course.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Social Studies 20-1, Social Studies 20, Social Studies 30-2, or equivalent course.

This is an Online Hybrid course with Online Synchronous Sessions held online in real time (Mountain Time).

  • Zoom web conferencing software. To fully participate in the classes, students will need: an internet connection, and a reliable headset with microphone.

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students registering on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students unfamiliar with online learning are encouraged to take our free Digital Skills for Learning Online course.

Unless otherwise stated, notice of withdrawal or transfer from a course must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the start date of the course.
