Course Description

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to shift our communication digitally, we must utilize tools effectively in order to succeed.

You will learn how to use Microsoft Teams and Zoom effectively for virtual and hybrid meetings. You will also learn how to schedule meetings that incorporate tools like Whiteboard, polls, self-service meeting appointments, recordings and transcripts.

Additionally, other applications and add-in tools will also be covered including OneNote, Outlook, Microsoft Booking, and FindTime.

Learning Outcomes

By completion of this course, successful learners will be able to:

  • Host or attend a Microsoft Teams / Zoom Meeting, and to create breakout rooms
  • Share presentation slides, use polls and Whiteboard during meetings
  • Manage meeting recordings, transcripts and notes 
  • Schedule meetings and appointment using tools like FindTime, Microsoft Booking and Outlook 
  • Manage in-person, hybrid, and virtual meetings effectively

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. Learners are expected to have basic level of familiarity with computer, and can perform the following tasks: 

  • start and run Windows or Mac operating system 
  • operate a mouse, keyboard and microphone  
  • start applications, copy and paste objects, navigate between files, folders, or drives 
  • access the Internet
  • send emails

Classes are held online in real time (Mountain Time) at the specified time and dates.

Students will require access to a computer with the required software, Internet connection, a headset with speakers and microphone, webcam, and a monitor large enough to display multiple applications (or the use of two monitors).

This course uses Desire2Learn (D2L), an online learning management system, and Zoom web conferencing software. The instructor will post the course outline and other materials in D2L. For more information, please visit our Online Learning Resources.

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students registered on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students unfamiliar with online learning are encouraged to take our free Digital Skills for Learning Online course.
