Course Description

Learn the basic communication skills in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), with an emphasis on conversation, along with some reading and writing. You will be introduced to the script and phonetic system of Arabic, the alphabet, as well as simple grammar and vocabulary. Become familiar with cultural aspects of the language and Arabic customs as you practice simple communication in various contexts. This course is designed for complete beginners.

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Introduce yourself and use greetings and farewells
  • Talk about dates and days of the week
  • Get and give phone numbers
  • Ask questions and give answers
  • Use polite expressions
  • Describe people and activities
  • Use vocabulary related to shopping and eating out (ordering food)
