ITA 101 - Italian 1
Course Description
Learn basic vocabulary, key phrases and introductory grammar as tools for basic interactional competence (oral and written). This course provides the appropriate foundation for progressing to higher levels.
This course is intended for those with little or no experience in Italian, who would like to discover more about the Italian language and culture. Learn how to understand and express simple concepts in Italian, focusing on daily conversation and real life situations.
Course Details
Upon successful completion of this Italian course, students will be able to:
- Listening: Understand the gist of simple conversations and audio material related to the thematic and linguistic content of the course.
- Speaking: Ask/answer simple questions and express simple ideas using limited vocabulary (introduce oneself and others, talk about everyday life activities, likes and dislikes, plans and family).
- Reading: Get the gist of simple reading material (short paragraphs, advertisements, schedules, brochures…).
- Writing: Write short, simple paragraphs in the present tense, such as messages and letters, to give information about self and others, everyday life activities and plans.
- Culture: Become aware of basic features of Italy such as history, such as geography, the arts, cultural traditions and distinguishing regional features. Italy from a Canadian perspective.
