Course Description

PEISSA Academic Support is designed to provide Indigenous learners enrolled in the Academic Preparation Program (APP) with personalized academic support, mentoring, and skill-building opportunities. The course connects students with Academic Success Mentors/Tutors who offer guidance, resources, and strategies to strengthen subject knowledge and foster confidence across a range of disciplines. This initiative promotes academic success, cultural responsiveness, and the development of transferable skills essential for future educational and career pathways for PEISSA students.

Course Details

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Apply effective academic strategies to improve performance in their chosen subject areas.
  • Engage in collaborative learning and mentoring to enhance understanding and critical thinking.
  • Create an Academic Success Plan outlining goals, strengths, learning needs, and strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Access and utilize learning resources to support independent and guided study.
  • Demonstrate increased confidence and readiness for transition into post-secondary programs.

Prerequisites

Students must be enrolled in the Academic Preparation Program (APP) and registered in PEISSA to participate in this course.

NOTE: This course is available only to students who are currently registered in Academic Preparation courses through the Pre-Pathways to Education for Indigenous Students (PEISSA) Program.
