Course Description

Review project delivery methods and commercial contracting strategies commonly employed on projects. Gain insights into the importance of contract awareness, project controls, documentation, communication, and change management on projects, alongside best practices for avoiding claims and disputes. Understand the prevalent causes of cost and schedule overruns that result in claims and disputes; learn how early project phases and decisions can affect the construction phase. Review best practices for preparing and analyzing change orders and claims. Explore analysis and quantification techniques for complex change orders and claims, including those related to delay, loss of productivity, and cumulative impact. Learn about various dispute resolution mechanisms.

This course is designed for owners, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, consultants, and any others involved in the execution of projects.

Course Details

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Recognize factors that cause cost and schedule overruns on projects and lead to claims and disputes.
  • Identify project delivery methods and commercial contracting strategies that can be employed to better manage change and minimize claims and disputes.
  • Recognize the importance of contract awareness and contract administration issues that pertain to construction disputes.
  • Explain the importance of project controls, documentation, and communication to facilitate effective change management and minimize claims and disputes.
  • Identify the methodologies used for presenting complex change orders or claims, including those involving delay and loss of productivity.
  • Recognize the various potential methods of resolving disputes.
