Course Description
This course examines perspectives on ideology. Students will explore the principles of liberalism and the progression from classical to modern liberalism. Students will analyze the effect of ideology on the growth of Canada and the impacts on Indigenous, Francophones and Anglophones in the post-confederation period.Course Details
By the completion of this course, successful students will be able to:
- Explore the relationship between identity and ideology
- Assess impacts of, and reactions to, principles of liberalism
- Assess the extent to which the principles of liberalism are viable
- Assess rights, roles and responsibilities as citizens

Successful completion of Social Studies 20-1, Social Studies 20, Social Studies 30-2, or equivalent course.

Alix Esterhuizen (she/her) holds a Master of Arts in Political Studies from Queen's University, with research focusing on morally polarizing issues. In addition to teaching high school social studies and English in the largest public school district in Western Canada, she is an education policy researcher at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, specializing in discrimination against gender and sexually diverse students and staff in schools.
