Course Description

This course is designed for learners trying to learn the fundamentals of data platform concepts in a cloud environment. It is intended for those with minimal technical background, who are looking to get basic skilling in cloud data services and are looking to build their foundational knowledge of cloud data services within Microsoft Azure. Learners will be able to identify and describe core data concepts such as relational, non-relational, big data and analytics, and how this technology is implemented, through cloud data-solutions with Microsoft Azure.

This course can be taken as an optional first step in learning about cloud data services with Microsoft Azure, before taking further Microsoft Azure or data related role-based certifications.

This course covers the objectives for Microsoft Exam DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals. This exam is required to fulfil the requirements of the Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals professional certification. Each learner enrolled in this course will be eligible for one attempt to write the Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals Certification Exam (DP-900).

Module 1 - Explore Core Data Concepts
In this module, you will explore relational data offerings, provisioning and deploying relational databases, and querying relational data through cloud data solutions with Microsoft Azure.

Module 2 - Explore Relational Data in Azure
In this module, you will explore relational data offerings, provisioning and deploying relational databases, and querying relational data through cloud data solutions with Azure.

Module 3 - Explore Non-relational Data in Azure
In this module, you will explore non-relational data offerings, provisioning and deploying non-relational databases, and non-relational data stores with Microsoft Azure.

Module 4 - Explore Modern Data Warehouse Analytics in Azure
In this module, you will you will explore the processing options available for building data analytics solutions in Azure. You will explore Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, and Azure HDInsight. You'll Learn what Power BI is, including its building blocks and how they work together.

Who is this course for?

The Azure Data Fundamentals course is designed for anyone interested in foundational-level knowledge of cloud data, and how cloud data services are provided with Microsoft Azure.
This course can be used to prepare candidates for other Azure role-based certifications like Designing and Implementing a Data Science Solution on Azure and Administering Relational Databases on Microsoft Azure. It designed for those who wish to pursue future careers like:

  • Data Analyst

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course, however, a basic level of familiarity with computer technology, cloud computing, and the Internet is assumed. The course includes hands-on activities that involve working with data and running queries, so knowledge of fundamental programming principles will be helpful.

Classes are held online in real time (Mountain Time) at the specified time and dates. You are eligible for 1 attempt for Microsoft DP-900 certification exam included in this course.

You will require access to a computer with an Internet connection, a headset with speakers and microphone, webcam, and a monitor large enough to display multiple applications (or the use of two monitors).

This course uses Desire2Learn (D2L), an online learning management system, and Microsoft Teams. The instructor will post your course outline and other materials in D2L.

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students registered on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students unfamiliar with online learning are encouraged to take our free Digital Skills for Learning Online course.

Unless otherwise stated, notice of withdrawal or transfer from a course must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the start date of the course.
