Course Description

Children, Adolescents, and adults who identify as transgender and/or gender diverse are prone to substantially higher rates of violence, discrimination, and mental health illnesses in comparison to other genders. Gender-affirmative approaches have been found to be one of the most significant protective factors in prevention of these outcomes and social workers are optimally positioned to help in this. This presentation will focus on what gender diversity looks like, what services exist in Alberta for young people and adults and some basics on how to be gender-affirming.
