Why do I need a UCID and an IT Computing account?

  UCID IT Computing Account
Description The UCID is an eight-digit identification number that is assigned to all students and staff connected to the University of Calgary. An IT Computing Account provides access to IT services on campus. It is possible to have a UCID without an IT Computing Account.
Purpose Continuing Education students use their UCID to register for courses and access the Professional and Continuing Education student portal. The IT Computing Account provides access to IT services on campus, such as an @ucalgary.ca email address and public university computers.
Timing Continuing Education students receive a UCID when they sign up for their first course. It typically takes two business days to receive a UCID. If you already have a UCID, your new account will be matched to your existing UCID. You may be contacted for verification. You will receive instructions for creating an IT Computing Account if your course or program of study requires that you have access to IT services on campus.
Expiry Your UCID never expires. Your IT Computing Account will expire 30 days after your course ends. If your account expires, it will be re-activated if you take additional courses which require you to have an IT Computing Account.
