UCID vs IT Computing Account
Why do I need a UCID and an IT Computing account?

Description | The UCID is an eight-digit identification number that is assigned to all students and staff connected to the University of Calgary. | An IT Computing Account provides access to IT services on campus. It is possible to have a UCID without an IT Computing Account. |
Purpose | Continuing Education students use their UCID to register for courses and access the Professional and Continuing Education student portal. | The IT Computing Account provides access to IT services on campus, such as an @ucalgary.ca email address and public university computers. |
Timing | Continuing Education students receive a UCID when they sign up for their first course. It typically takes two business days to receive a UCID. If you already have a UCID, your new account will be matched to your existing UCID. You may be contacted for verification. | You will receive instructions for creating an IT Computing Account if your course or program of study requires that you have access to IT services on campus. |
Expiry | Your UCID never expires. | Your IT Computing Account will expire 30 days after your course ends. If your account expires, it will be re-activated if you take additional courses which require you to have an IT Computing Account. |
