Marie Lau

Environmental Management Certificate

When Marie Lau's employer – an oil and gas consulting company – asked her to accept a new role as an environmental and regulatory coordinator, she began looking for ways to gain the knowledge she needed to be effective in the position.

Marie looked to the University of Calgary – the school from which she had graduated in 2006 with a Master of Arts in the Interdisciplinary Study of Law and Communication.

"All regulations in oil and gas revolve around environmental issues, so I decided to enrol in the Environmental Management Certificate program," explains Marie, who went on to complete the program in two years."

"It definitely enhanced and advanced my knowledge of environmental systems, and has helped me in my work and career," she says. "I learned about everything from eco systems to oil sands, to environmental tools."

"I'm very happy with what I've learned in this program," says Marie. "I was impressed with the quality of instruction throughout. The instructors were excellent and brought so much expertise to the classroom."

"In class, you also have great learning experiences with the other students. You learn from each other's questions and from class discussions."

"I would definitely recommend this program to others. It was such a great experience for me and has motivated to me to go on and enrol in a master's degree program in the environmental field."
