Certificate for Emerging Leaders

Marc Hummel, a recent graduate of the Certificate for Emerging Leaders, turned to the University of Calgary because he wanted an in-depth program that focused on leadership.

His employer of 11 years, The City of Calgary, encourages continuing education courses for all staff, so Marc did some research to find the program that he thought would best meet his needs.

"I preferred to seek out a certificate program, one that would involve people from other workplaces and other industries. I wanted to find something at U of C because I felt it would bring more depth to the learning."

While a coordinator in the planning department at The City of Calgary at the time, Mark had completed the program within six months. In all, he had taken seven seminars to fulfill the requirement of 98 hours. His favourite was Powerful Presentations. "It was very demanding, but excellent."

When Marc completed the program, he came away with a new understanding of the concept of leadership, it's role in the workplace, and how the fundamentals of leadership were equally important in personal life.

"The Certificate for Emerging Leaders was an excellent experience," he says. "Leadership is as much about personal discovery as it is about learning as a team. The Emerging Leaders Certificate Program provided an excellent opportunity to examine both providing insight and tools that I now utilize regularly on the job".

Marc was pleased with the caliber of instruction he received and the friendly and open environment in the seminars.

"Many of the students were eager to share, and the instructors were all very skilled at bringing out the students' thoughts."

"Without question, I would recommend the Certificate for Emerging Leaders Certificate to others," says Marc.
