Spanish Language and Culture Certificate – Level 2
"I registered in the Continuing Education Spanish program because it was recommended to me by a friend, and now that I've completed the certificate, I recommend it to others," says Cheryl Jeffery, a recent graduate of the Spanish Language and Culture Certificate – Level 2.
Four years ago, Cheryl was two years from retirement, her two sons were grown, and she finally felt she had some time for herself. So, she decided to get started on her long-time goal to learn a second language.
"I chose Spanish because of the number of countries that speak the language," says Cheryl. "I enrolled in one course to start with, wanting to see what I thought of it. I enjoyed it, so I decided to take the certificate."
"I have taken so many classes while I've been in the program. That shows how much I've enjoyed it. I have my certificate now, but I'm still going to a Saturday morning classes to improve further.
"My fluency is always improving," says Cheryl. "And I can manage on trips now."
Cheryl has done some travelling to Spanish speaking countries over the past few years to help her test and improve her language skills. She spent three weeks in Ecuador with a friend when she first retired, has travelled with her husband as well, and has future plans to travel to Peru.
Cheryl continues to practise her Spanish every couple of weeks over coffee with friends – some of whom she met through her Continuing Education courses. And she may soon have the opportunity to practise the language with her husband, who has now retired, and is contemplating taking Spanish courses too.
