Course Description
Connect to and visualize any data using Power BI, the unified, scalable platform for self-service and enterprise business intelligence (BI). Power BI is easy to use and helps you gain deeper insight into your data.Students will examine the methods and best practices that align with business and technical requirements for modeling, visualizing, and analyzing data with Power BI.
You will learn how to access and process data from various sources, including relational and non-relational data. Implement proper security standards and policies across the Power BI spectrum, including datasets and groups. Manage and deploy reports and dashboards for sharing and content distribution, and enable advanced analytic capabilities that provide meaningful business value.
This course covers the objectives for Microsoft Exam PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst. This exam is required to fulfil the requirements of the Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate professional certification.

Module 1: Get Started with Microsoft Data Analytics
- Explore the different roles in the data space, the important roles and responsibilities of a Data Analysts, and then explore the landscape of the Power BI portfolio.
- This module explores the identification and retrieval of data from various data sources. Learn the options for connectivity and data storage and understand the difference and performance implications of connecting directly to data vs. importing it.
- This module teaches you the process of profiling and understanding the condition of data. Learn how to identify anomalies, look at the size and shape of data, and perform the proper data cleaning and transforming steps to prepare data for loading into the model.
- Module four teaches the fundamental concepts of designing and developing a data model for proper performance and scalability. Understand and tackle many of the common data modeling issues, including relationships, security, and performance.
- This module introduces you to the world of the Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) programming language. Students will be exposed to enhancing a model and its true power. Learn about aggregations and the concepts of Measures, calculated columns and tables, and Time Intelligence functions to solve calculation and data analysis problems.
- Students are introduced to steps, processes, concepts, and data modeling best practices necessary to optimize a data model for enterprise-level performance.
- Module seven introduces you to the fundamental concepts and principles of designing and building a report, including selecting the correct visuals, creating a page layout, and applying basic but critical functionality. The vital topic of designing for accessibility is also covered.
- Learn how to tell a compelling story using dashboards and the different navigation tools available to provide navigation. You will be introduced to features and functionality and how to enhance dashboards for usability and insights.
- Apply additional features to enhance the report for analytical insights within the data, equipping you with the steps to use the report for actual data analysis. Perform advanced analytics using AI visuals on the report for even deeper and more meaningful data insights.
- This module will introduce you to Workspaces, including how to create and manage them. Discover how to share content, including reports and dashboards, and then learn how to distribute an App.
- This module will introduce you to parameters and datasets. Learn how to manage datasets and parameters, build dynamic reports with parameters, and set dataset refresh options.
- In Module twelve, students will understand how to implement row-level security using the Static and Dynamic methods.
