Course Description

Develop your understanding of Indigenous communities, protocols, and practices that support the development of healthy and respectful relationships with Indigenous people. Gain a broader understanding of economic reconciliation to recognize the different ways of creating meaningful relations and taking action on organizational commitments. Learn about Indigenous laws and governance, treaty-making, and protocol to create an understanding of parallel world views and decision-making.

Learning Outcomes

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Recognize how Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing, and connecting can create relationships with Indigenous people and community to work together in a good way
  • Understand allyship, partnership, and what it means to be a good relative to connect in a good way with Indigenous people
  • Connect to the knowledge, practices, and beliefs of Indigenous people and understand how they shape Indigenous governance, law, protocol, and interactions
  • Compare and contrast Indigenous engagement efforts to formulate recommendations that encourage meaningful engagement
  • Acknowledge the difference between consultation and engagement
  • Engage in the development of stakeholder engagement strategies using an Indigenous lens
