Wendy Tkaczuk is a Continuing Education enthusiast! Not many people can say they've completed three certificate programs in three years, but Wendy can.
Most recently, Wendy graduated from the French Language and Culture Certificate – FSL Foundations, and has already begun working toward the intermediate level certificate.
"At the Foundations level, I'm able to converse and I have some confidence speaking and writing. I'm doing it because I believe it will enhance my travelling."
Wendy was motivated to take her first Continuing Education course three years ago. She already had a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a CHRP (Canadian Human Resource Professional) designation, but wanted to take courses to be as up-to-date as possible in her field. She was able to apply some prior learning toward her first program, and then transferred some of the credits from the first certificate toward her second certificate.
"For my CHRP designation, I need professional development credits, so I knew my courses could meet that requirement for me. Also, I was intrigued that the program could be taken online, so I wanted to give it a try."
She works full time at the University of Calgary and has a busy homelife with her husband, two children, and two dogs.
"Online learning works really well in my life, especially when it's cold out and I don't want to go outside. I like that you can log in from home early on Saturday mornings. The house is quiet, and I can get my work done in pyjamas."
"I find the instructors are all willing to go above and beyond for the students in the resources they provide, and the knowledge and experience they share in online forums. They're there to make sure you understand, and to facilitate your learning ... and they do it very well."
"I like that the instructors understand that the students are adults, and that life issues often come up. They're totally understanding when these things happen," says Wendy.
"I love Continuing Education. I recommend it all the time."
