Vee Skeet
Professional Writing Certificate specializing in Marketing and Public Relations
It seems Vee Skeet is trying to soak up every bit of writing knowledge she can through Continuing Education.
A recent graduate of the Professional Writing Certificate specializing in Marketing and Public Relations, Vee is already taking classes towards a second Professional Writing Certificate, this time specializing in Business and Technical Writing. And after that, her plan is to go on to the Creative Writing Certificate.
Vee arrived in Canada from the UK in 2001 after being relocated here by an oil and gas company. At the time, she was working as a trainer in IT. A few years later, she went looking for a new job and landed in the marketing and communications field.
"As my career has progressed, I've moved more towards writing. Currently, I work as a copywriter, primarily for the web. When I decided to do my first writing certificate, it was because I wanted to learn among other writers," she says.
"It took me two years to complete the certificate and I absolutely loved doing it. I felt it validated for me that I'm on the right career path and already doing well. I've gotten all A's and that makes me very proud, and has me thinking that someday, I may start my own communications business."
The online experience has gone well for Vee. "I like that you get to know everyone in your class equally well - not just the two or three people who sit by you. When you are in an online course, everyone's thoughts are out there. I really appreciate how often someone will say something that I haven't even thought of."
"The instructors were definitely experts in their field," says Vee. "Every course I did, I would think, this teacher is the best. Then the next one would be excellent too. All of them have been absolutely wonderful."
Vee has adapted to a regular online routine where she logs in every day after work. Since the new week starts every Tuesday, she knows she can get her homework done on the weekend.
"Every time one of my courses ended, I couldn't wait to get started on the next," says Vee. "I'm getting way more out of these classes than I expected when I enrolled. I've enjoyed them so much."
