After spending some time travelling after high school, Tiana Schrump chose to turn to Continuing Education at the University of Calgary for her first post-secondary school experience.
"I knew I wanted to find something related to the environment, and something that could lead to a stable job. I wanted it to be something I could be passionate about," says Tiana.
She chose to enrol in the Environmental Management Certificate, and after that, the Health, Safety and Environment certificate, completing all of the program requirements for both certificates in approximately two years.
Tiana moved through her programs at a fast pace, but she knew it was a time in her life when she could manage the demanding schedule. It helped that for much of the time she was working a flexible schedule at a coffee bar in Calgary.
"I enjoyed all of my courses and took several online. It let me work at my own pace, and made it possible for me to work around my work shifts and travelling," she says. "And, thanks to a fellow student, I was able to secure a summer internship position as well, which was great."
