Certificate in Professional Management
Tammy Russell is quick to give some of the credit for her recent career changes to the two Continuing Education certificates that she has earned over the past decade – the Professional Management Certificate specializing in Risk Management, and Professional Management – General.
"My certificates have helped me make a move to a new company and take on a new role," she says. "I went from being on the road as an adjuster to a management position with a different company. I know my certificates definitely helped me accomplish that."
"I believe a U of C certificate can speak volumes. People view you different. A certificate looks great on a resume, and can lead to advancement."
Tammy began taking courses through Continuing Education over ten years ago when her children were active teens. She started with a general Professional Management program, confident it would complement the Chartered Insurance Professional designation she'd already earned from the Insurance Institute of Canada.
"I was intimidated at first even though I'd already taken my insurance courses. I worried about being able to manage university courses. But, I was driven and it went well," she says.
"The instructors were always so understanding that the students had other lives with work and family commitments," she says. "But that doesn't mean they were easy on you. They still make you work."
So, after completing her first certificate, Tammy took advantage of the opportunity to transfer some of her course credits for a headstart on a second certificate, Professional Management specializing in Risk Management. Now that she'd graduated from that program, she's considering a third.
"I may be back for more," she says. "I'm seriously thinking about taking HR management."
