Certificate for Emerging Leaders
"I think this program has made me a better leader," says Chris Turner, who graduated recently with the Certificate for Emerging Leaders. "It's been very beneficial for me both professionally and personally."
"Throughout the program, I found the learning very applicable to my work. At times I was able to implement the learning immediately," he says. "For example, as a service agent, I meet with people face-to-face and sometimes they're not happy. The knowledge I've gained in this certificate has helped me deal with those situations, and solve people's problems more effectively."
"I enrolled in this certificate looking for management skills. I came out with a better understanding of people and life, and have found it to be useful at home as well, especially communicating with my kids."
The Certificate for Emerging Leaders is the second certificate that Chris has earned through Continuing Education.
Several years ago Chris transitioned from working 20 years in a family business to a new career. He turned to Continuing Education for learning and a credential that would complement his years of work experience. He chose the Certificate in General Management, which helped him settle into a new career in procurement at the University of Calgary.
"I've always enjoyed the interaction in the classroom, and hearing the different points of view of the students. You learn from them too. Hearing how others deal with things can be very helpful."
