Taorid Ashiru
Professional Management Certificate specializing in Construction Management
Taorid Ashiru chose Continuing Education at the University of Calgary because "it is known for quality courses." He recently completed the Professional Management Certificate specializing in Construction Management to satisfy the professional development units he needed for APEGA. He also wanted to gain skills to support his role as a construction project manager.
Most of the courses were offered online making it possible for him to juggle working full time and attending to family at the same time. By dedicating a portion of his evenings and weekends to study he was able to complete the program in a year.
The online learning platform "provided me with the convenience of learning from my home and still able to learn effectively." It also made it very easy to communicate with the instructor and his classmates, one of whom was in a different time zone.
The knowledge he gained from the program gave him new confidence in tackling his role, "especially the courses on construction law and construction costing. These courses in particular have proven invaluable in my current role."
Overall Taorid is happy he took the certificate program because, "I am able to use the knowledge I gained in my day to day work. I am more confident and very happy I am able to put the skills I have acquired to use.
Taorid describes his Continuing Education experience as both practical and enjoyable. In the future he plans to continue his studies at the University of Calgary pursuing a masters program.
