FSW 149 - The Inevitable Challenges of Field Supervision

Course Description

This workshop builds upon the Fall 2022 workshop offered for field instructors by the Faculty of Social Work – U of C called The Field Instruction/Supervision Triad – Student, Faculty and Field Instructor.
As the title suggests, this workshop will present a variety of challenges via scenarios and offer interventions for change that could be applied in a field instruction setting.

Outcomes/Objectives:
• Field Instructors will either recognize challenges they may be facing in student supervision or develop an awareness of possible ones
• Field Instructors will note an increased confidence in their knowledge of challenges and potential ability to support students in challenging times. 
• Field Instructors will have an opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and examples of interactions that have arisen when supervising a student and consider supportive responses 
• Field Instructors gain skills to apply in challenging situations with student
