TI 0907 - Roundtable Discussion: Meaningful WIL - Designing & Mentoring Student Placements
Course Description
This roundtable discussion brings together program staff and supervisors from paid and unpaid forms of Work-Integrated Learning at UCalgary for a discussion and sharing on designing meaningful student placements. This session will draw on the expertise of program staff from internship/co-operative education programs, as well as field placement/practicum programs with a goal of supporting the creation of additional student placements within UCalgary teams. If you are a seasoned mentor to WIL students, bring key resources and stories from your successes and challenges. If you are new to supervising students in WIL, come with questions and leave with new connections, ideas and resources.
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Be familiar with several paid and unpaid opportunities at UCalgary to partner with students in a Work-Integrated Learning placement
- Describe appropriate projects to engage WIL students on their team
- Connect with others mentoring and supporting meaningful WIL placements
