TI 0789 - Experiential Learning Foundations: Introduction to Integrating Learning Objectives
Course Description
Participants will become adept with three tools useful for designing, implementing, and consolidating meaningful experiential learning (EL). Quality EL includes alignment with learning objectives (LO) and ensuring students reflect and connect EL activities with other experiences and future plans. We’ll define the phases of the EL Cycle (Kolb, 1984). Then, we’ll arrange learning objectives across the EL cycle. Here we’ll find guidance in the PEAR Framework to differentiate planning, engagement, assessment, and reflection stages (McRae, 2018). Next, we’ll practice developing an opportunity for critical reflection according to the DEAL Model (Ash & Clayton, 2009). With these resources and interaction throughout the session, participants will more confidently be able to provide quality EL to their students.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define the phases of Kolb’s EL cycle and apply them to creating EL activities
- Articulate learning objectives for EL activities to align with Kolb’s cycle
- Adapt or develop EL activities using McRae’s PEAR framework
- Initiate a critical reflection protocol based on Ash & Clayton’s DEAL model to maximize students’ learning
Please note: Registration will close 48 hours before each workshop. Participants will receive relevant Zoom information via email at least 1 hour before the designated start time.
