Course Description

Living under a sustained global pandemic has affected us all in diverse and sometimes traumatizing ways. Recognizing that our learners cannot simply leave past traumatic experiences 'at the door', we must instead understand the ways in which our teaching practices can support or impede student resilience. To this end, we will spend this workshop discussing how designing learning experiences with a trauma-informed lens can support student learning across all disciplines.

After this workshop, participants will be able to…

  • articulate how trauma responses may affect student learning,
  • describe Venet’s four priorities model for trauma-informed teaching practices,
  • apply one or more of these four priorities to their own course as ways to support student learning, and,
  • make connections between equity and trauma-informed teaching in higher education.
