TI 0750 - Facilitating a SoTL Book Club
Course Description
Are you interested in gaining insights from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning? Would you like to build a community around discussions of teaching? If so, you may be interested in organizing a SoTL book club. In a SoTL book club, members meet to discuss a book they have read related to teaching and learning. These meetings, and the sense of community they foster, can provide a framework for collaboration and open discussion about teaching challenges and ideas for addressing them, thus making teaching a less solitary endeavour. This workshop will provide ideas for organizing a SoTL book club, structuring its meetings, and fostering constructive discussion among participants.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand the organization and goals of SoTL book clubs
- Identify ways a SoTL book club could be useful in your teaching context
- Plan your own SoTL book club.
