Vegetable Gardening: Harvesting, Preserving and Planning

You've grown your own vegetables and fruits, but now what? We will discuss techniques and timing in the Alberta region for best fall harvest, preserving and storing vegetable and fruit crops, growing produce indoors, and getting a jump start on your garden for spring! Topics include keeper crops, harvesting techniques, canning, drying and freezing, storage, overwintering your garden, and growing indoors.

Course Details

By completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Identify five keeper crops
  • Harvest a selection of home-grown produce for storage
  • Apply a minimum of three different preservation techniques
  • Prepare the vegetable/fruit garden for winter
  • Establish and maintain indoor produce
  • Plan a productive spring garden

The live sessions will be held in real time as follows:

To fully participate in the live sessions you will need to have access to a reliable headset with microphone (webcam not necessary).

Unless notified, all online courses are available at 9 am MT the day before the start date. Students who register on (or after) the start date will receive access within one day of registration.

Students who are unfamiliar with online learning are recommended to take BMC 352 Learning Online prior to enrolling in this course.

Unless otherwise stated, notice of withdrawal or transfer from a course must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the start date of the course.
