Course Description

In this course we will engage in cross-disciplinary conversations about learning-centered inquiry and scholarship in teaching and learning. Participants will be invited to consider their teaching and learning context and to critically explore general and discipline-specific teaching and learning scholarship. Using the University of Calgary Teaching and Learning Grants framework and criteria, participants will develop a scholarly inquiry project proposal based on a question meaningful to their own context. In addition, rigorous scholarly inquiry will be supported as participants give and receive structured feedback on each other’s’ proposals. This course will incorporate face-to-face as well as online components and both individual and collaborative activities to support flexible, authentic learning opportunities.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Critically examine current scholarship in teaching and learning
  • Engage in conversations about teaching and learning with colleagues from a range of disciplinary backgrounds
  • Identify key teaching and learning issues/questions in their own context
  • Develop a scholarly inquiry project proposal based on one of the identified questions
  • Provide structured feedback on others’ inquiry proposals
