Course Description

Participation in French cultural activities and a written summary of these events are required from students completing the Experiential Learning Component. Students will engage in a minimum of 20 hours of French language activities in academic, cultural, social or fine arts settings. Suitable activities include a mixture of various events where French is used, including passive and active forms of learning such as participation in francophone community events, attendance at or involvement in French theatre, participation in the French Centre immersion weekends, reading a novel, watching a film, travelling, etc.

Activities to be credited toward the experiential learning component are subject to the approval of a program coordinator. Students can submit a plan of action for prior approval to ensure that all activities will be recognized. Upon completion, a written summary outlining various activities that the student engaged in will be submitted for final evaluation. This summary may have different formats, but the information provided will be written in French. The most common formats are a journal or an essay (minimum of four pages).

Prerequisites

The bulk of activities should start when students finish French 6.
