TI 0990 - Artificial intelligence literacy workshops series
Course Description
This three-part online workshop series, intended for University of Calgary faculty, post-doctoral scholars, and graduate students, provides a practical foundation for understanding and integrating artificial intelligence into your teaching practice. Beginning with a myth-busting and foundational knowledge workshop, the series progresses with an ethical considerations and academic integrity challenges discussion, culminating in a session with hands-on experience using specific AI tools. Designed for faculty at all levels of artificial intelligence familiarity, these workshops offer a safe, supportive environment to explore AI's role in higher education without requiring major course redesigns or technical expertise.
This workshop series has three sessions, we encourage participants to attend all three sessions to gain the full benefit.
All sessions will be delivered online through Zoom from 12-1 p.m.
- June 9 - Artificial Intelligence, academic integrity and teaching and learning
This collaborative workshop explores the intersection of generative AI, academic integrity, and educational practices in higher education. Participants will engage in discussions about ethical considerations, strategies for developing AI literacy, and emerging trends that impact teaching and learning. Using shared documentation, we'll collectively examine how AI reshapes academic integrity expectations and classroom dynamic
- June 10 - Artificial intelligence myths and realities in higher education
This session provides a clear, jargon-free overview of what AI can and cannot do in academic settings, examining common misconceptions including the myth of unbiased AI. We'll explore how inherent biases in AI systems affect their capabilities and appropriate uses in higher education.
- June 11 - First steps: Using artificial intelligence for small teaching tasks
This hands-on workshop introduces low-risk ways to use AI for routine teaching tasks that save time without major course redesign. Participants will use tools for to design course components such as course outcomes, assessment tasks, quizzes and AI policy.
