Michelle Roth
Certificate in Adult Learning specializing in Workplace Learning
Working in the health and safety field, and involved heavily in training, Michelle Roth – who already had an occupational health and safety education – came to UCalgary looking for a program that would fill an important gap in her skill set. She wanted knowledge that would help her help others learn.
"I found the Certificate in Adult Learning specializing in Workplace learning, and liked it partly because it was from the University of Calgary, but also because it was online," she explains. "The way my schedule is, if the program hadn't been online, I probably couldn't have done it.
"Online learning scared me a little at first, but by the time I'd completed my first course, I realized there were things I really liked about it, like how I could take it anywhere, and how my classmates were from all over the world."
It took Michelle approximately three years to complete the certificate program typically completing one course a semester.
"It was fascinating learning how people learn. It opened my mind to different perspectives and broadened my thinking for sure. And all of my instructors were great. They came from diverse backgrounds and were very knowledgeable."
"I'm very glad I took the program and would recommend it to anyone. It actually taught me a lot about myself. And now, even though I'm not doing as much training as I was when I started, I still find the learning valuable, I use it every day."
"In my field, you're training all the time, and this program taught me to expand my perspective, to realize that the way I know isn't necessarily the only way to do something."
