Professional Management specializing in Strategic Management (2012)

Project Management Fundamentals (2014)

Jenny Tham had been out of university for a few years, and was settled into a position as an account manager for a leading professional services company in Calgary when she decided she was ready to re-engage in education.

She already had her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Operations and Management, but knew she could benefit from some additional learning.

"I enrolled in Continuing Education courses because I wanted to refresh my education. I believe in continuous development, and I wanted to be sure I was staying up to date," she says.

When Jenny first started taking courses, she chose to pursue a Certificate in Professional Management specializing in Strategic Management, a program from which she graduated in 2012. Following that, she went on to enrol in the Project Management Fundamentals Certificate, a program that has prepared her to pursue her Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

"The Project Management Fundamentals program gave me a good foundation to understand what a project is and the reasons for the tools. It's given me terminology as well as an understanding of process and an appreciation for the importance of documentation."

"The instructors in the program had excellent theoretical knowledge as well as application experience, and were able to challenge us to apply the information as we learned it," she says. "And there was a rich diversity of students from many different industries, which provided a different lens to see how others applied project management tools.

Jenny chose to take her courses in a face-to-face classroom environment, and appreciated being able to take her courses just a short walk from her office. "The downtown campus has made it very convenient for me to take courses. I can go to class straight from work," she says.

Convenience was just one of several reasons for Jenny to begin another certificate program in marketing. "I chose all of these programs because they complement the role I'm in," she explains.

"I am happy to recommend Continuing Education to others," says Jenny. "It is ideal for anyone who wants to develop professionally and needs flexibility in their schedule. Continuing Education allows you to work full time and still further your education."
