Braydon Ross
Certificate in Health, Safety and Environment
When he was out of high school for just two years, Braydon Ross began contemplating his future. Coming from an entrepreneurial family, he was naturally drawn to business; but, because of other influences he was equally curious about the health and safety field. Braydon decided to learn about both.
"I had an uncle and some friends working in health and safety, so I felt motivated to give the HSE program a try. Once I got going, I loved what I was learning."
Braydon completed the Health, Safety and Environment Certificate program in 10 months, much quicker than is usually recommended. He enrolled in courses, knowing it was a time in his life when he could manage a quick and demanding pace.
Younger than most of his classmates, and in his first post-secondary program, Braydon found the Continuing Education environment interesting with students spanning a variety of ages and levels of work experience.
"I was intimidated at first," he says. "But I did okay and being surrounded by older people turned out to be a great experience. I met lots of supportive people along the way, which is how I managed to secure a summer internship in a safety advisory role."
Braydon did HSE courses both online and in the classroom, but learned to particularly enjoy the online experience. "The thing about online is that it doesn't matter where you are, or when you want to work. It's so user friendly. I even took courses on vacation with me to Mexico."
"Hands down, I'd recommend this program. It was great. I'm not really sure where it's going to take me, but I think it will serve me well."
Since completing his program, Braydon has begun working toward a diploma in business administration with another post secondary institution in Calgary.
