Our South American Wine and Culinary trip takes us to Chile and Argentina at the time of year when they are at their best - harvest time. We start in Santiago, nestled in the foothills of the Andes (much higher than the Rockies!), where we will stay for five nights taking day trips to picturesque vineyards and sampling some of Chile’s most famous and revered wines, to the coast (only 112 km from the Andes to the sea!), to craft villages and world heritage sites. We enjoy al fresco lunches in vineyards and dine in Santiago’s best restaurants at night.
A highlight of this trip is the drive over the Andes Mountains to Argentina, where we will stay for another five nights. On our journey, we will see the amazing Cordillera de Los Andes, Mt. Aconcagua (6,959 m above sea level, the highest in the Americas), and visit the breathtaking Puente del Inca to admire its natural formation.
Mendoza will be our home in Argentina, the centre of winemaking in this fascinating country. Our trip is timed so we can participate in “La Vendimia” (the grape harvest festival). A one-day celebration, it is a treat for the eyes with a parade in the morning and a spectacular evening show in the outdoor amphitheatre at night. We will be visiting some of the world’s highest vineyards during our stay in Mendoza and sipping their wines alongside some of the finest cuisine in this beef-eating country. An optional visit and overnight stay in Buenos Aires completes this trip of the finest Chile and Argentina have to offer.
