COR 734 - Critical Thinking in Business: Strategies for Better Decisions
Course Description
Critical thinking is a complicated process that requires a skilful approach of analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing information gathered from different sources, including observation, experience, reasoning, communication or others.
In a business context, critical thinking helps professionals navigate complex challenges, make strategic decisions, and innovate by approaching problems with a structured and open-minded perspective.
This course focuses on key aspects of critical thinking relevant to business contexts, including problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical reasoning.
Course Details
Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to:
- Identify factors that influence our own thinking process and how we question assumptions, identify biases, examine evidence, and
- Identify analytical approaches to breaking down complex information into smaller parts to understand it better
- Identify the different factors that impact critical thinking (e.g. human, technological factors etc.) that might hinder or accelerate critical thinking
- Describe the relationship between scientific and critical thinking as two distinct but connected intellectual processes.
- Describe the different or multiple measures for assessing critical thinking at work.
- Examine the identifiable set of characteristics which need to be present in a decision making process that demonstrates one has implemented critical thinking.
- Evaluate tools for assessing information and sources' credibility, relevance, and validity.
