Course Description

Using the knowledge gained from the course, COR 287 Lean Six Sigma: Foundations you will further explore the DMAIC framework through data gathering and analysis. During this two-day, highly interactive workshop, you will apply statistical techniques to organizational data using statistical software in a lab setting. Explore the statistical distributions and exploratory data analysis that is characteristic to Six Sigma methodologies. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be prepared to start your quality improvement project.

Course Details

Upon the completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Explain what model would be best suited to explain the behaviour of output variables in relation to input variables in a continuous improvement project sample.
  • Explain the difference between statistical and practical significance, correlation, and causation
  • Use basic probability concepts and describe various distributions as they apply to statistical process control and probability.
  • Use data analysis tools for sampling plans, statistical reviews, and validation to determine which root causes contribute significantly to the project output
  • Execute basic statistics, Value Stream Mapping, and Process Value Analysis
  • Use data analysis techniques to data sets using statistical software
  • Write summaries of all the findings from statistical validation or process value analysis
  • Evaluate problems in the process that cause defects and determine if these problems are the root causes of defects.
