Course Description

In teaching and learning, we need to have confidence that we are making good privacy choices on behalf of our students. These choices begin with the current landscape of institutional policy as well as provincial and federal legislation. Every member of our learning communities also have different perspective and beliefs about privacy. At the same time, our teaching and learning tools and technology also inhabit a broad range of perspectives and motives, requiring even more nuance in these discussions.

This workshop will help build your confidence in your decision-making around privacy by providing space to investigate these factors and understand your role in fostering a safe and privacy-sensitive approach to teaching and learning.

In this workshop we will help instructors to:

  • Connect privacy principles and legislation to your teaching and learning context
  • Distinguish between student and instructor perspectives and beliefs on privacy
  • Describe privacy sensitive ways to use D2L / Brightspace and 3rd party learning tools

This workshop will take place in-person on Wednesday August 13th, 2025 in Room TI 250 of the Taylor Institute building.

Please note: Registration will close 2 business days before each workshop. Participants will receive relevant Zoom information via email at least 1 hour before the designated start time.
