COR 663 - Technical Writing and Documentation
Course Description
Learn to effectively communicate information to your audience by applying relevant concepts and tools to help you make sense of various writing tasks. Develop your ability to analyze written information and use structure to reinforce its meaning and make the message clear. Practice your writing and editing skills in this friendly, relaxed workshop environment.
During this workshop, complete individual and small group activities in the following areas:
- Understanding the audience and purpose to influence the level of detail included in a document
- Assessing tone
- Writing to save readers time and get the results you need
- Planning and drafting email messages and longer documents, such as proposals and reports
- Editing for spelling, grammar, word choice, punctuation, sentence structure, and sentence length
Course Details
Upon the completion of this course, successful students will be able to:
- Identify critical parts of the writing process
- Recognize how style and form inform and influence the effectiveness of a written document
- Create clear and concise documents that get results
- Apply appropriate business and technical writing styles and formats for a variety of audiences with varying purposes
- Examine a five-step editing checklist to fine-tune every document
