Course Description

The Teaching Online Program (TOP) is an immersive, fully online program for instructors who want to enhance their online teaching and learning skills. In the three-week TOP I, participants work individually and in small groups in D2L, spending most of their time on reading, online discussions, and online learning activities. Participants work through the program as a cohort, exploring a variety of technologies and strategies for enhancing online learning and contemplating how online teaching and learning relates to their own contexts.

Topics covered in TOP I include exploring online learning, online student assessment and planning online activities.

At the end of TOP I, learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions informed by research and practices of online learning in higher education
  • Engage in discussion as a community of learners to explore and construct concepts and relationships by solving unstructured real-world problems
  • Develop an awareness of the complexity of online pedagogy and how this might influence their analyses and interpretations in their online teaching and learning practice

Successful completion of TOP I is required before continuing to TOP II.

Course Platform: D2L (fully online) Asynchronous: three-week learning modules with associated online learning activities Synchronous: optional attendance Workload: estimate 2-4 hours per week

Participants who successfully complete TOP I will be eligible to receive TOP I badge offered by the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning.
