Course Description

Supporting Positive Mental Health in Children and Adolescents

This course will describe basic brain anatomy and development related to mental health in children and adolescents, especially areas that influence increased risk for mental health problems in adolescence. We will cover mental health symptoms and diagnoses that are common in this phase of life. We will also discuss the stigma related to mental health and its impact on help-seeking. Finally, while participants will be encouraged to seek support from mental health professionals for serious concerns, we will address strategies that can be used to support positive mental health in school-aged children and adolescents.
