Course Description

Christianity is the world’s largest religion with approximately 2.1 billion followers worldwide. Not only is Christianity the biggest of the world religions, but it is also the most widely diffused of all the faiths geographically. As Christianity has played an important role in shaping Western civilization, it is important to understand the fundamentals of this religion from an academic perspective. You will be introduced to an overview of Christianity including: historical context, key figures, sacred texts, main beliefs, rituals, practices, festivals, and theology. In addition, relations between Christianity and society, for example, topics concerning the Christian life, the afterlife, sex, sexuality, and other themes will be discussed. We will critically examine Christianity from an academic lens by exploring this religion through historical, social, theological, and other perspectives.
